Mandala 曼陀羅

Concept of each Mandala artwork

  • Festive Festoons, 2020

This riot of colours on canvas is the pièce de resistance of Ms. Doshi’s mandala collection. It’s intricate, almost bridal decoration is hugely inspired by her Indian roots. On closer inspection, one can spot the influences from various cultures from the different states of her land of birth, each coexisting in perfect balance without overpowering each other. As this charming piece awaits the right wall to adorn; its hallmark is its eclectic fusion.

  • Expanse, 2019

When an artist tries to pack in the expanse of the universe with her palette, a myriad of colours is expected to take shape on the canvas. She has predominantly used primary colours in the painting that signifies the balance of the eight cardinal directions. Incidentally the concept of eight cardinal directions is the something that both Feng shui and Vaastu shastra rely heavily upon and attempt to optimise the energy from all of them.

  • Serendipity, 2020

Serendipity is when you find something beneficial purely by chance. Even science owes a lot of its discoveries to serendipity. The inspiration behind this work is that we may find something we may not necessarily be looking for but eventually turned out for our good. It may start of as something small and we may not envision the final result till it all falls in place for us. Like the sun that dispels darkness, there is hope and positivity at its centre.

  • Sheild, 2020

While one may think it is the sword that protects, a shield is what often comes to our rescue. is more. The sword hits and hurts but a shield protects us from blows, negativity and unpleasantness. It absorbs their impact before it reaches and affects us and reflects positivity and abundance. The centre is inspired from Turkish Nazar Boncuk charm, also known as the Turkish evil eye that is used to thwart the evil eye; the idea being to repel evil spirits to keep you safe from harm. All of us need such shields to retain our sanity and that is the inspiration behind this piece.

  • Grace, 2020

Grace is an unmerited favour from God. We are surrounded by God’s beauty in nature and this particular mandala is inspired by that beauty especially the sun and how its rays spread to bestow us with its life-giving light. A mandala emerges from within outwards; with its centre as its soul, it blossoms as it expands. There is a certain poise to this piece and elegance in the fluidity of the colours that inspired the artist to name it ‘Grace’.

  • Harmony, 2020

Happiness as they say is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony. The world is not a perfect place but an artist attempts to bring some sort of order with her art. In music, harmony is a pleasing combination and progression of chords similarly this painting is a beautiful amalgamation of warm and vibrant colours infused in the geometric patterns of mandala.

  • Holly in a Frame, 2020

While other plants may wilt in the winters, holly remains green and strong, its berries a brightly colored red in the harshest of conditions. With Christmas knocking at our doors, it’s the time to deck the halls with boughs of holly. This year more than ever we wish for the season to be jolly and this painting captures that spirit with its red and green colour scheme. Just like the plant, may this little piece of art be the harbinger of good luck and protection for you.

  • Joy to the World, 2020

Just like the song with the same title, this simple yet powerful work evokes the spirit of joy in the beholder. In the darkest of our moments, it is the tiny ray of happiness that keeps us alive. This piece is the artist’s way of sending joy to the world when it needs it the most. Though this mandala has its characteristic geometric patterns, some of its motifs are unconventional and yet they blend in seamlessly making it a perfect piece to own.

  • Glory, 2020

Each one of us in every walk of life aspires to achieve glory through their work and actions. This mandala is the personification of that desire in colours. Not only does it symbolise glory, it also inspires us to achieve it. The choice of yellow and orange colours is very apt because we tend to associate these bright colours with the spotlight that glory brings with it.
