YUNG Tak Cheung
ARTWORKS | NEWS
For more than three decades, paediatrician Yung Tak-Cheung has sequestered his nights to an incurable ailment, an insatiable fondness for photographic art. Evoking primal elements of the natural world, he draws upon this wellspring of light and texture, reconstituting them with fluctuations of the human condition. His profound and sincere gratitude for everyday living is a reminder of our frailty and struggles, yet of the opportunities each new day brings.
His newer works reveal his penchant for the unseen grandiosity of abundant, everyday items. Old coins, worn banknotes and faded maps, as with everything that is overlooked and underappreciated, hold immeasurable worth, beyond weathered appearances. They are guides through time, milestones to our evolution, our eyes to the distinctions we place between ourselves and the exterior world. He imbues his art with optimism, each a talisman of good fortune for the roads we have yet to travel.
